Spire has the drive and work ethic of a border collie, with the goofy happy personality of a golden. She loves to work, but will also do anything to make me laugh while we are training. She is aloof with strangers at first but will be in your lap a few minutes after walking in the door. If people force interaction on her, she will not warm up as quickly. Very neutral/happy in public as long as she is ignored but if people stare/talk to her she does not appreciate it. She has been a bit slower to mature, but at 2.5 is really starting to come around and become one of my best dogs. Friendly and playful with every dog she meets but will give fair corrections when warranted. Off switch/relaxation needed to be trained, she would be a little menace without it.
My only struggle with her is arousal, and it is not something I had the ability to work on with her at a young age so we are fighting it now. When it comes to breeding her, I will only cross her to boys with very low arousal to help improve on this issue, though I do think it was more a training fault on my end.
Spire is currently trialing in disc, agility and working on her rally excellent title (will start working towards her RACH shortly after), we are also training in nosework, dock diving and will peruse more points towards her D/FCAT next year. She is currently ranked #17 for fastest border collies of 2024 in fastcat. Spire has had a decent amount of herding lessons, but due to our current life, we have had to put herding on the back burner again. She was a natural and very stylish on sheep.
