Please reach out to us at if you cannot find an answer to your question.
All of our breeding dogs have passing OFA scores for hip, elbows, shoulders, patellas & eyes, the golden's also have passing thyroid and cardiac. All dogs are also genetically tested by the program best fit for the breed; border collies are tested through wisdom panel while the golden's are tested through embark.
Links to OFA's and genetic panels can be found on each dog's page.
We follow the Puppy Culture program, which is designed to prepare your puppy for its new home and create a well-rounded companion. We also do Early Neurological Stimulation with all our litters. Lastly, we use the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test to pair our pups up with their new homes.
We require a $250 non refundable deposit to be placed on a "planned litters" wait list. Once puppies are born and we know we have the gender you would prefer, we require another $250. The total deposit price of $500 will be taken off of the full price of the puppy. Remaining amount due by pick up.
If we do not have a puppy that fits your needs we will refund you or can move your deposit to a future litter. We do not require any deposit for litters where stud is not confirmed or the time frame is not planned. We will contact you once we have made final decisions.
Border Collies puppies will range from $1,500-2,500. Golden Retriever puppies will range from $2,500-4,000. Those prices include microchip, AKC limited registration and first round of vaccines.
We do ask that people who are on our list and decided to go with another breeder or different litter with us let us know as soon as you decide, so we can fill your spot. We are happy to talk and answer questions, and are completely fine with people who want to talk to other breeders and see what litters are out there, but please do not take a spot on our planned breeding list if you are not set on it. We will only breed if we have a certain amount of commitment.
Temperament tests will be done at 7-8 weeks. After temperament testing, we will go in order of the list with performance homes getting priority. This means if a performance home comes to reserve a puppy after a pet home, they would technically get to pick first. This is because they're usually looking for very specific drive or temperament in their pup.
Our process will be that I will give you options, "these are the puppies that fit temperament wise what you want" and let people pick between the ones that fit their wants etc. If I feel there is only one puppy that fits a specific home, I will talk with that home, explain why I think this is the best pup for them and go from there.
We understand everyone has a personal preference on color/gender and I want my puppy owners to love the dog they are living with for the next 10-15 years. If you are set on a specific gender, we will do our best to give you that gender. If there is the opposite gender that would fit you, we may include it in the options when it comes time to pick. Color wise, we can never guarantee what will come out, but we are definitely happy to take it into consideration when placing pups.
All puppy picks will be done through video call where we will discuss temperaments in more detail, you can watch them interact with each other, us and toys.
Your puppies must be registered with the AKC. We will handle all the paperwork for this process. The cost of AKC registration and microchip registration is already included in the puppy price.
All Sona Kennel puppies registered names will begin with our kennel prefix "Sona". The rest of the registered name is entirely up to you but if you need help coming up with a registered name we are here to help.
We plan to keep each litter until they are 8-10 weeks, this way we can help get a jump start on crate training, potty training and some other skills to help make the transition easier for the new owner.
If you are an experienced trainer/performance home and would like your puppy at 8 weeks, we are open to discussing it.
We would potentially be open to selling a pup on full rights to the right person, but currently our puppies are sent home with limited registration to their new homes.
Who is the right person? Someone who is already titling and involved in dog shows/sports and has done a lot of research on health, wellness, training, breeding, behavior, etc. In addition, full rights will only be granted after DNA and OFA testing is done and a higher level title is achieved.
While we live in Northern NJ, Morgan currently has a business in Minnesota. Due to this, we do offer to meet anywhere on our route between NJ - MN. Please know that depending on circumstances, some litters may be raised in MN for the safety of being there for the business if needed. If location effects your decision on a puppy from us, please contact us to confirm where litters will be raised.
Currently Malibu & Spire's litters are planned to be whelped and raised in MN.
